Transfer Admissions

U.S. University Transfer Services

Two paths, one goal — transferring into a better school. Community college (CC) is a cost-effective springboard straight to top UC campuses: with the TAG guarantee agreement, you can reach a leading California university in two years. And if you are already enrolled in a bachelor's program — at a U.S., overseas, or Chinese university — transferring gives you a fresh chance to choose a better school and a path that truly fits you.

CC to UC · Eight Key Advantages

Pathway Advantages
01
Lower Admission Bar, Better Odds of Entry:Community colleges have relatively relaxed language requirements — TOEFL 52 or IELTS 5.0 can be enough for admission, and some schools even accept students who have not yet finished high school. For students whose grades are not yet top-tier but who have a clear study-abroad plan, it is an ideal starting point.
02
Affordable Tuition, Lighter Family Burden:Average tuition is about $8,000-10,000 per year (roughly RMB 50,000-70,000), far more manageable than the RMB 300,000-400,000 per year at four-year universities — the best option for families seeking quality education while keeping costs under control.
03
Less Competition, Higher Admit Rates:Compared with freshman applications, community college transfer pools are smaller and success rates higher; the UC system reserves dedicated admission spots for CC transfer students, so the odds of reaching a top school through transfer are greater.
04
Transferable Credits, No Wasted Time:Most foundational courses (math, writing, general education, and more) transfer directly to four-year universities, avoiding repeat coursework — saving time, keeping you on pace, and moving you into a top-school system within two years.
05
Springboard to Top Schools, Guaranteed Transfer:Most California community colleges hold TAG transfer guarantee agreements with the UC system: complete the required credits and meet the GPA threshold, and admission to a designated UC campus is guaranteed.
06
An Extra OPT Opportunity:Completing an Associate's degree earns you one additional OPT application — an extra chance to intern at a top U.S. company compared with students who go straight through a four-year program, a plus for future graduate study or employment.
07
No Standardized Tests, Transfer-Friendly:Transferring to UC or CSU through community college usually requires no TOEFL, IELTS, or SAT/ACT — a clear advantage over freshman admission expectations of SAT 1400+ and TOEFL 90+.
08
Small Classes, Close Faculty Interaction:Community colleges typically teach in small classes of about 20 students, with far more faculty interaction — professors know each student well and can provide personalized academic support.

Does TAG guarantee admission to UCLA or Berkeley?
No. TAG covers only Davis, Irvine, Riverside, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, and Merced; UCLA, Berkeley, and San Diego require the regular transfer channel, evaluated holistically on GPA, course sequence, and essays—a high community college GPA plus complete prerequisite coursework remains the strongest door-opener.
